We have passed the one year mark! New Earth BioMed was born on January 11, 2010 and started operations in July 2010. Now, 1.5 years old, we have much to be excited about. You can read about our latest research results in the March-June, 2011 activity report.
In brief, we have begun testing various mixtures of natural products and other compounds against human lung cancer cells. As part of this effort, we have identified mixtures that are synergistic, ones that are antagonistic, and ones that are both synergistic and antagonistic, depending on the concentration. We have also obtained our first series of laser bioassay images using only light to capture chemical differences in different areas of a cell. Currently we are trying to use the laser system to quantify differences in cell viability when cells are treated with different concentrations of natural products. One day, this system will help us rapidly screen natural product mixtures for their effects on cancer and normal cells.
While new results are available, some things have not changed. Our commitment to the discovery of nontoxic natural product mixtures useful against cancer is stronger than ever. Our goal is to help develop a new generation of nontoxic drugs that are more effective against cancer than those we have available today. And to do that we are developing new cutting-edge tools, like the laser bioassay system. Consider the impact that transistors had on society and technology in the 1900s—we believe that light will have an even greater impact than this on our next 100 years. The possibilities of using light to probe biologic effects or to quantify chemicals in the food we eat, in the water we drink, and in our very cells are enormous and nearly untaped. Though our laser work and biological studies, We are helping to change the world.
We believe the approach we are adopting holds tremendous promise for discovering safer and more effective therapies. If you agree, please consider helping to support our efforts. With your financial assistance, this project can thrive.
